Steve Wood brings an exceptional pedigree to City Padel, backed by decades of experience coaching and competing at the highest levels of the sport.

 

As the former touring coach for ATP Tour player Vince Spadea (career-high world ranking: 18), Steve has travelled the international circuit, developing professional athletes and honing elite-level strategies.

 

His role as a hitting partner to global icons such as the Williams sisters (Serena & Venus), Andy Murray, Amanda Coetzer (No.3), Karel Novacek (No.8), and Mardy Fish (No.7) reflects his ability to train with and push world-class talent.

 

Steve has also made a significant impact as a National LTA Coach, leading three top junior players through the UK rankings and into the senior game, all of whom went on to compete at Wimbledon.

 

At the university level, Steve’s influence was just as powerful. He took the University of Exeter women’s tennis team to number one in the UK, while the men’s team climbed to number two nationally under his leadership.

 

Steve now brings that energy, knowledge, and passion for the game to padel, offering coaching that blends technical expertise, tactical depth, and a deep understanding of athlete development.

Having grown up in Spain, Ben has over ten years of padel playing experience and has received coaching from ex-pros such as Godo Diaz and Mauri Andrini. He represented Team GB at the Junior World Championships in Malaga in 2017 and Valencia in 2019 gaining invaluable experience against some of the best players in the world.

I started coaching locally in Spain as a cheaper alternative to the two clubs in my area.

Seeing the progression of my clients through the different levels of padel.

 

    One tip for new players?

 

Be patient, whoever makes the least unforced errors will win the match.

Open to coaching all Padel Players, have previously worked with County level Padel  players and National level Tennis players, including top 50 UK Junior players. A top 100 UK player in both tennis and Padel. 

​

My philosophy is to cover a wide range of aspects in the game of Padel, from Tactical awareness, technical teaching and physical training, I bring a lot of energy to every lesson and ensure my clients walk away from the court with a smile.

 

My favourite shot is the Vibora.

 

My highest LTA rank is 84 in the UK, achieved within 6 months of competing.

 

Coached tennis for 16 years and played Padel a couple of time abroad and instantly fell in love with it, I fully converted from tennis to padel 2 years ago.
